Fool's Experiments
Artists statement
Witnessing the birth of my first grandchild inspired a concern for all procreation, life cycles and evolution, opening my eyes to the fantastical creations of our natural world.
Theories from Buddhist philosphy and Charles Darwin's 'On the origin of species' support notions that man, through his intelligence, is not immune from extinction, but like any animal, plant, or tree, is a part of an ever-evolving universe sharing a common organic history and therefore vunerable.
Darwin suggested that "It is not the strongest species that survives or the most intelligent that survives, it is the one that is most adaptable to change". Hence, my creative journey has crossed classification boundaries to look for more ambiguous relationships between humans and the natural world.
By combining elements from the human body, such as hair and nail clippings, with those found in nature, I create delicate subtle artworkds that relate to life's fragility and interdependance.
